All this time I’ve been using my Nikon Coolscan V 35mm scanner without the digital ICE feature turned on. I never quite knew what it was or trusted it since most scanner ‘enhancements’ just ruin colors, but it turns out this just automatically gets rid of all the dust and scratches during scanning. All the dust and scratches I’ve been painstakingly removing in photoshop over hundreds of hours.
Cue world’s biggest head slap. This is why I usually write about my experiences using film and film equipment, because it’s so easy to make stupid, time wasting mistakes like this when using equipment that’s rarely documented.
I’ll be updating my Coolscan V guide accordingly today.
